Perpetual Trophies

These trophies are given out during the trophy presentation, in accordance to set criteria. The criteria ranges from breaking longstanding centre records, to improvement in certain events, to being a great trier. The number of trophies has expanded over the years, with the most recent additions to the current ten trophies being inaugurated in 2016-17. The winners of each trophy are detailed below, with the trophies appearing in the order they were created.

In some cases there are inconsistancies in what details are recorded on the trophies. In these cases all details known are below, and all details that are not on the trophes will be added as we verify them.  If you know any details not recorded below, please email the centre.

Stone Trophy

The Stone Trophy shall be awarded to the highest overall points scorer using the IFLAC points system. In the event of a tie the athlete with the most improvement points shall be the winner. The original IFLAC points system was devised in 1974/75 to provide encouragement to athletes of all abilities, as an alternative to the then SALAA recommended 'Victorian System' that was heavily skewed in favour of the best athletes. The IFLAC points system was quite popular, and had been adopted or modified for use by many other Centres across the State by 1983.

Currently 10 points are awarded for every personal best performance, and 10 points for every home meet in which an athlete contests at least half of the programmed events. 20 points are awarded for attendance at select inter-centre competitions; provided that the athlete contests at least half of the programmed events, and that such meets are open to all athletes from the under 6 to under 17 age groups. Tiny tots are not included in the IFLAC points system.

The Stone Trophy was first awarded in the 1975/76 season, and named for Rodney Stone, our second Chairperson and second Life Member. Originally there was a rule that allowed any athlete that won the trophy for three consecutive seasons to retain it. A new trophy was brought in for 1984-85, which was itself finally replaced in 2015-16.

Phil Hollis Walk Trophy

The Phil Holis Walk Trophy shall be awarded to the most improved walker at the Centre. The winner shall be decided by the committee. The criteria for determining the most improved walker shall be: shall be: style, improvement, and performance.

The Phill Hollis Trophy was first awarded in the 1981/82 season, and was named for Phil Hollis, a well respected walks coach who offered his services to the Centre. One of his athletes, Craig Topperwien, has held national records in walks since the early eighties.

Parafield Gardens Encouragement Trophy

This trophy, founded in 1985, was originally named the "Ingle Farm Real Estate Encouragement Trophy", and given to the athlete that best represents the Little Athletics 'trier'. For the 1995 AGM, shortly after the induction of the Mayor's Trophy which is exclusive to U6-U8 athletes, it was re-purposed to be exclusive to the U9+ age groups. It was at this time that the trophy was renamed to the "Weeks and Macklin Encouragement Trophy".

With the trophy becoming weaker with age, and both the front and back plates of the trophy full, it was decided in the 2015/16 season to replace the original trophy. The new trophy was named after the then major sponsor.

Paul Jennings Memorial Trophy

The Paul Jennings Memorial Trophy shall be awarded to an athlete from the U6-U8 age group who, in the opinion of the Committee, most typifies the Little Athletics Trier.

The Paul Jennings Memorial Trophy is named for former President Paul Jennings, who passed away during the 2017-18 Season. It is the successor to the Mayor's Trophy, which was awarded from 1992-2003; and the Salisbury Mayor's Trophy, which was awarded from 2004-2017.

Unfortunately the original Mayor's Trophy was destroyed in the fire, so we are unable to acknowledge its winners.

Mark Schumacher Trophy

Shall be awarded to any athlete who breaks a long-standing record. A long standing record is a record that remains unbroken for at least seven consecutive years.

Debuting as the Schumacher Trophy, as part of the twentieth anniversary of the Centre in 1993/94, it originally acknowledged the achievements of Mark and Amanda Schumacher, who, at the time, held a sizeable number of the Centre records between them. In the time since many of these have since been beaten, and others have been made defunct by SALAA rule changes. As of January 2016, Mark holds two, and Amanda three, Centre Best Performances in current events, the most recent of which has stood since 1985.

Following the fire at the end of the 2009/10 season, Barbara Schumacher made a donation to the Centre in memory of her son Mark. As the original  Schumacher Trophy had been destroyed in the fire, it was decided to include Mark's name on the replacement trophy.

(Note: The information on who had won this trophy pre-fire can be found by back-tracing the history of the Centre Records. We are in the process of doing this, and will add the information here when complete.)

Renfey May Memorial Trophy

Shall be awarded to the most improved 100m runner at the Centre. The criteria for determining the winner shall be: improvement, attitude, and performance.

The Renfrey May Memorial Trophy was first awarded in 1993/94, and is named in honour of Life Member, Renfrey May.

(Note: The RMMT was not damaged by the fire, we simply haven't got around to uploading the info yet.)

Belinda Keily Field Trophy

Shall be awarded to any athlete for improvement in the field events of High Jump, Long Jump, Shot-put and Discus. The winner shall be decided by the Committee. The criteria for determining the most improved athlete shall be: attitude, improvement and performance.

The Belinda Keily Field Trophy was first awarded in 2001/02, and is named after Belinda Keily. The last spot on the trophy was filled in 2015/16. Rather than renew the trophy, it was decided to have separate trophies for Jumps and Throws.

Gwenda Mayne Memorial Trophy

Shall be awarded to the athlete who improves the most across all track events. All age groups shall be considered.

The Gwenda Mayne Memorial Trophy was first awarded in 2005/06, following the passing of Life Member and longstanding servent of the Centre, Gwenda Mayne.

IGA Club Person of the Year

The IGA Club Person of the Year award recognises personal contribution by either an athlete or individual during the season.

It was first awarded in 2010/11, and is named for then SALAA sponsor and insurance provider, IGA, who provided the Centre with $10,000 following the fire.

Sharlee McCulloch Jumps Trophy

Due to the number of trophies based on track events, it was decided to create two new trophies to cover the field events, rather than renew the Belinda Keily Field Trophy.

The Sharlee McCulloch Jumps trophy was named for the greatest jumper across Ingle Farm's history, with who set a number of State and National records across High Jump, and continues to hold the club record in every age group in which she competed.

Thompson Family Throws Trophy

Due to the number of trophies based on track events, it was decided to create two new trophies to cover the field events, rather than renew the Belinda Keily Field Trophy.

The Thompson Family Throws Trophy was named for Multi-State Record holder, Nikki Thompson, her older siblings Gary and Charlene Thompson, who hold or held a number of Club Records in the older age group, and their parents Michael and Chris, for their contribution as officials and chaperones over many years. Michael, Gary, and Charlene also coached for a number of years. Nikki continues to hold the club record for every event that was offered when she competed.

Reece Denham Memorial Trophy

The IGA Club Person of the Year award recognises personal contribution by either an athlete or individual during the season.

It was first awarded in 2010/11, and is named for then SALAA sponsor and insurance provider, IGA, who provided the Centre with $10,000 following the fire.

Ingle Farm Coaches Trophy
